It is hard to believe that we are quickly coming upon our 100th day of school! This past month the kids have been very busy workers and dove right back into their routine after Christmas break. They are doing a fantastic job with writing their last names and with their shoe tying!

We enjoyed reading Jan Brett’s “The Mitten” and “The Hat”. The kids did a fantastic job with retelling the stories and focusing on the beginning, middle and end. They also were able to talk about the similar settings of the stories and characters. Be sure to check out Jan Brett’s website for some great activities!

Jan Brett’s stories led us into our mini-unit on animals in winter. This week we discussed animals that hibernate and adapt. On Monday we will talk about migration. We have been working very hard on our book creations as we learn about the animals.

The kids have been working very hard on their sight words! We are almost done our yellow words. We will be introduced to both “you” and “have” within the next two weeks. We have also been working on word families to help with our reading.

Check out this Between the Lions game online to help with word families:

Please remember to have your children wear their hats and mittens/gloves to school each day. We try to get out each day for recess.
