16 Days of Kindergarten! Things are starting to pick up speed. Each day the kids are becoming more and more independent in our daily routine.

I hope that homework went well this week at home. It will be my homework this weekend to go through everything. If you have any questions, concerns or comments…please don’t hesitate to let me know.

This week we started to learn about apples. We have talked about how they grow throughout the year and the different parts of the apple. We hope to be “apple experts” for our fieldtrip next Wednesday! Today we had a blast making applesauce. The room smelled delicious all day long! This is one of my favorite things to make at home in the crock-pot and is so easy to do. Check your child’s BEAR binder for the recipe.

As jacket season has started to sneak up on us, I’ve already started my loss & found collection of assorted coats, hats and sweatshirts. If you could write your child’s name or initials on inside tags, it would be very helpful in helping return loss items.

Another 4 days down. This week the kids really started to settle in. Many of them are now independently unpacking in the morning and going right to their morning work. They have done a fantastic job of learning our morning calendar songs and have started to learn the alphabet in sign language.

We have started using the clip chart to monitor our behavior. It will be a learning process for both the kids and I. This is the first year we have utilized this system and I am very excited about being able to focus more on the positive behaviors. As we settle in to our daily routine, we will be able to utilize the chart more consistently.

Lunchtime is always a very big part of our day. Many kids are excited to try school lunch for the first time. During lunch the kindergarten program assistants stay with the kids and help them. This year we are sharing Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Chaisson with 2 other classes. It would be helpful to your child to be able to practice opening their snacks or putting straws in juice boxes. Just as a reminder, you can send in money for lunch in any amount and it will be added to your child lunch account. You can also access their lunch account information directly online from the school website. You will need their student id number to register for online access.

Any Scholastic book orders are due by Wednesday the 15th.

Great 1st Week!

2 days down! What a great first 2 days we had. Kids learned about our classroom and classroom rules. We read the story "Keven Knows the Rules". Today we practiced a fire drill and we talked about our lock down practices.

This year we will be sharing 2 program assistants. We will have Mrs. Peters and Mrs.Chaisson.

Over the next several weeks we will talk a lot more about names, letters and colors. We will also begin a unit on apples.

I want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to all the families who were able to donate needed items to our classroom. We appreciate everything you do for us.

Have a great 4 day weekend! :)
