Reading Logs

Reading Log

I have added our reading log to the classroom website under parent and student spot. I would love to add more things online that would be beneficial to our classroom families. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

The class has been working very hard on their weather unit with 8th grade science teacher, Mrs. Nugent. In this past week's lesson, the students talked about how wind affects temperature. They thought about ways to measure the wind and what effects it would have. Mrs. Nugent gave them the task to create a wind anemometer in groups of 2. The kids were given 2 pieces of cardboard, a block with a small wood bead attached, a pencil, 4 small cups, putty, and small pins. They were given no direction or model to follow. The students worked as partners to draw their plans and to create their anemometer. They were then able to test their tool with the help of a fan. If it did not work, the kids went back to work on a new plan. The kids did an amazing job and it was amazing to watch them work through the task.

Spring Boards

Our St. Patrick's Day board. Everyone wrote down 3 wishes. It is always fun to see the range of wishes everyone comes up with! We painted our shamrocks with corn syrup with green dye. Clearly we should have let a few of them dry for a few more days. I think some passing kids had a little bit of fun too . :)

Our spring picture creations. We used scraps of colored paper to create our own spring scenes. Lots of creativity!

Book Readers and Pizza

Congratulations to Thomas, Anthony and Hannah for completing a reading log for each month! They were invited to join Mrs. O'Leary and Ms. Garrigan's class today for a pizza and ice-cream party!

In the spring time, I will host a pizza party for every child who has successfully read 100 books or more! Keep Reading! :)
